Cher Père Noël,

Cette année j'ai été aussi sage qu'un étudiant Erasmus peut l'être mais à vrai dire si tu ne me pardonnes pas mes quelques frasques ce n'est pas grave parce qu'après le séjour magique que je viens de passer dans ta contrée, je n'ai aucun cadeau à te demander! Un peu de repos pour toi et tes lutins! Mon voyage extraordinaire en Laponie commence à 23h30 le mercredi 3 décembre à Tampere, pour m'émerveiller pendant 6 jours. Quelques heures de bus et une tres courte nuit plus tard nous voilà débarqué au Rauna Zoo, premiere occasion de decouvrir la faune et la flore laponienne. Pour se mettre ensuite dans le bain c'est directement chez toi que l'on arrive, à Rovaniemi. Féerie de Noël au rendez-vous, bien que touristique, ton petit village illumine les peter pan sommeillant en chacun de nous. Photo avec toi en poche, nous decouvrons maintenant Vasaatoka, notre lieu de résidence pour le séjour, sauna au bord du lac gelé, foret, cottage entre copains... PEPOUZE quoi. Mais venir chez toi, c'est pas de la rigolade, il faut être paré à affronter la difficile vie en Laponie comme les autochtones!

Pour ça réveil aux aurores tous les matins, même si en réalité le jour se lève plus vers 11h actuellement pour se coucher 3h30 plus tard. Survival course pour apprendre à faire du feu sur la neige, à construire un lumitalos - igloo à la finnoise qui ressemble, en fait, plus à un quinzy - et comment se repérer lors d'une randonnée raquettes en foret; Siida, musée national des Sámi finnois, et reindeer farm à Inari pour en apprendre plus sur les Sámi, qu'ils soient finnois, norvégiens, suèdois ou russes et passer son permis rennes - les épreuves consistant à les faire manger et à se faire trainer pour une petite ballade en traineau; petit détour par la Norvège pour decouvrir la rudesse du froid dans le plus haut village au Nord de l'Europe, Bugøynes, et le glacial ocean arctique qui nous attendait bien sagement apres le sauna; puis enfin la ballade en chien de traîneaux à Saariskela, celle que tout le monde attendait avec impatiente et qui m'a permis, pendant 1 heure de balade dont 30 minutes de conduite, de vivre un de mes rêves de gosse, survenu en regardant Balto. Il faut dire qu'avec tout ça Père Noël tu nous a bien gâtés.

Mais le point d'excellence, le cadeau le plus extraordinaire sous le sapin, tu nous l'as offert deux fois. Deux nuits consécutivement rendues merveilleuses lorsque tu as sorti de ta hotte ce que chacun esperait voir, mis à part ton traineau, envahir le ciel: les aurores boreales!

Alors merci Papa Noël pour ce voyage enchanteur, ces cadeaux mirobolants et ces souvenirs homériques.

Et après tout ça je peux le dire, stop au scandale, ton nez et tes pommettes ne sont pas rouges parce que tu es un alcoolique mais bien parce que quand il fait -20 tout le monde rougit, même le ciel, photos à l'appuie!

Dear Santa,

This year I have been as wise as an Erasmus student can be, but frankly if you don't forgive me my few antics that doesn't really matter because after the magical experience that I just have had in your country, I don't want to ask you any gift! Some rest for you and your elves! My extraordinary journey in Lapland begins at 23:30 Wednesday, December 3 in Tampere, to amaze me for 6 days. Several hours bus and a very short night later we disembarked in Rauna Zoo, the first opportunity to discover the flora and fauna of Lapland. To get into the swing, then it is directly to your home, in Rovaniemi, that we arrives.With the Spirit of Christmas awaiting for us, and even if it is really touristic, your village illuminates the Peter Pan that is slumbering in each of us. Picture with you in our pocket, now we're going to Vasaatoka, our place of residence during the trip, sauna at the edge of the frozen lake, forest, cottage with friends ... CHILL in some. But coming to see you is not a joke, we must be ready to face the hard life in Lapland as the native people!

For this awakening at the crack of dawn every morning, even though in reality the sun currently rises at 11am to set less than 3 hours and a half later. Survival course to learn how to do fire on the snow, how to build a lumitalos - a finnish igloo that, actually, looks more like a quinzy - and how to find your way during a snowshoes hiking in the forest; Siida, the National museum of the Finnish Sámi, and a reindeer farm in Inari to learn more about the Sámi, be they Finnish, Norwegian, Swedish or Russian and pass the reindeer driving licence - the test consisting in making them eat and to be dragged for a small sleigh ride; little roundabout way in Norway to discover the harsh cold in the higher village in Europe, Bugøynes, and the freezing arctic ocean that was wainting patiently for us after the sauna; and then finally the ride with the sledge dogs in Saariskela that everybody was waiting for and that allows me, during 1 hour within it 30 minutes of driving, to live one of my tyke's wish, occured by looking at Balto. I have to say that with all of that, you spoiled us Santa!

But the point of excellence, the most extraordinary gift under the Christmas Tree, you offer it to us two times! Two nights consecutively rendered wonderful when you have left from your fume hood what everyone was hoping to see, apart from your sleigh, invading the sky: the northern lights!

So thank you Santa for this charming journey, those marvellous gifts and those Homeric memories.

And after all of that I can say it, stop the scandal, your nose and your cheekbones are not blushed because you're alcoholic but rather because when it's -20 everybody reddens, even the sky, photo based!
