One day Chris - astrologer, traveling planner and Austrian Erasmus - arrived by telling us "hey guys tonight we can see northern lights!" what could be more enticing? The same night we therefore went to the Lake of Lappinkari - student residence - by sinking into the forest, beer and guitar in hand. To get into the mood, and because we had a bit chilly, the boys decided to make a fire. As a scout knowledgeable I admire the effort! In a particularly pastoral atmosphere we had a long time to wait, while scanning the sky. Then at 4am we decided it was time to go to sleep, empty-handed. Merely, the day after Chris was again arriving, delighted, saying "hey guys tonight we can see northern lights"! So once again! Fresh as daisies we went back to the lake. But this time we saw them! And even if the cameras have captured many more colors than we, the show was amazing. My eyes sparkled as much as the sky, my whole body was only joy, and honestly I don't even know how to describe the feeling you have when you realize a childhood dream! So yes, they were not stained and we will - I hope - see some better, but they were the first and without even moving from Tampere, on a Friday night when we could have been, like all others in a night club. And believe me it is rather exceptional, a Finnish told me she had never seen them somewhere else than in Lapland. So exceptional that newspapers spoke about that in a lot of countries.
So here we are, I can now say "I've seeeen northern liiiiiights" - and for those who can't pronounce it auroraaaaaa, with as much a as i.
